2012 Las Moras Reserve Malbec

I am a big fan of Malbec, the darling of Argentina. This wine does not disappoint. Off the glass are lush dark fruit aromas, namely, blackcurrant, mulberry, raspberry and plum followed by earthy and toasty oak undertones. The same reappear in the flavours with added  licorice root like bitterness and spicy notes. Strangely, it finishes off with slight Nyquil cough syrup in the aftertaste, but it should be good for for my flu.

2012 Moulin de Duhart Pauillac

This is the second wine of a vineyard owned by the Rothschild family and a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (67%) and Merlot(33%). It exhibits a dark ruby colour with a thin garnet rim. On the nose are enticing aromas of cassis, raspberry, prune and plum with hints of cedar, toasty oak and lead pencil shavings. On the palate are above savoury dark fruit flavours intermingled with spice, anise and ginseng. It has a full-bodied mouthfeel and a long silky finish with moderately high tannins, but well balanced. A great value wine.

2010 Premium 1904 Tempranillo-Cabernet Sauvignon

Attractive deep red cherry colour. Inviting aromas of red cherry, strawberry and plum with hints of mushroom and nutmeg. On the palate, the above red and dark fruits flavours reappear followed by spice in the middle and hearty toffee and caramel at the back end. Big bold tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon stand out but softened somewhat by the fruity acidity of Tempranillo. The finish is a bit short and unexciting. Overall a well balanced and complex wine.

2010 Chateau Citran

Deep purplish red hues. Off the glass are impressive aromas of cassis, raspberry, plum,  bramble and black tea plus hints of balsamic and toasty notes. The aromas extend to the flavours. On the mid palate, spicy, chocolaty and jammy notes abound. As said by the winemaker, 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend offers this wine a perfect balance. The tannins are bold yet velvety, acidity is round and polished and finish long and lingering. Just awesome.

2013 Charamba Douro Tinto

Opaque ruby red from core to rim. Expressive nose of boysenberry, cassis and raspberry aromas with strong black pepper notes. This is a full bodied wine. The palate showcases abundant ripe dark fruit flavours plus a lot of minerality and spices.  Thick and bold tannins but well balanced by mouthwatering acidity. Long and complex finish. Excellent value. A little known gem from Portugal.

2013 Taylors Jaraman Shiraz

Deep dark inky violet colour. Overwhelmed the nose are seductive aromas of blackcurrant, raspberry, dark cherry and plums with some cigar box undertones. Abundant above dark fruit flavours plus mulberry appear in the palate intermingled with black pepper, oak, dark chocolate and cocoa notes. Thick and chewy tannins are well balanced by bright acidity, thus giving this full-bodied wine a complex structure. The finish lingers a good 30 seconds. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.
